Who Are We?

As a group of parents of young children with special needs we became very much aware that within the Stockport area there is no group that supports all family members. Most groups are run during the day therefore restricting access for the working partner and siblings.   The ABC Family Group runs on a Saturday with all family members invited.  It is an opportunity to meet other families and share experiences in a supportive and fun environment.

What Do We Do?

The aim of the ABC Family Group is to provide a setting for all the family within a play environment. All children/teenagers and parents/carers should feel relaxed with plenty of toys, games and activities to keep everyone busy. It is an opportunity for families to make friends with families in a similar position and share experiences.

Exciting Youth Group ABC+

ABC+ is a youth group specifically for special needs teenagers aged 11 to 16.  A fun teenage atmosphere is created by providing games consoles (Wii, Sony Playstation 2), football table, snooker tables, group activities run by experienced volunteers.  Click on the ABC Plus menu on the left for more details

When Do We Meet?

The ABC Group for children aged 0 - 11 is held on Saturday afternoon, between 2pm - 4:30pm, enabling more access for all the family. The group meets every fortnight.

The ABC+ Group for teenages aged 11-16 is held on Tuesday evening, between 7pm - 8:45pm every fortnight

Sad News

It is with great sadness that Josie passed away on the 19th January 2010.  Josie has been the corner stone of the ABC Group since it was started in 2001.  Regularly preparing all the food and drink for the parents and children, providing a listening ear to everyone's problems and using her years of experience to help everyone who had the pleasure in knowing her.  Josie was an inspiration to everyone, always active and the life and soul of every party (I'm sure Dublin and Cork will be remember for many years).  Josie is what everyone should aspire to be in life.  We will miss Josie greatly, but her kindness will live on in everyone's hearts. We plan to hold an event in the near future to celebrate Josie's life and provide a lasting memorial, with details to follow.

Our thoughts are with Josie's family during this difficult time.

What We've Been Up to...

We visited Chillfactore and had an awesome time tubing down slopes and running, sliding and playing in the snow play.

We had a brilliant Christmas party, and even got to meet Santa!

The Pirate Day on the 17th October was hugh success with lots of mini pirates.  A fun filled day with special Pirate events (ooohhhh arrrrhhhh me arteees)

We danced the night away to the sounds of Halloween before dipping our hands in the witches broth.

Days Out

ABC and ABC+ took over Chillfactore and went tubing and snow playing!

We spent the day at Chatsworth House, climbing, sliding, jumping and playing with the sand and water,

Relaxing Weekends

The ABC Dad's enjoyed a relaxing weekend in the Lake District at Centre Parcs enjoying the peace & quiet, bowling, coming 2nd in the Quiz night, swimming and paint balling.  Obviously all super fit!

The ABC Mum's also had a relaxing weekend in Disley at the Moorside, enjoying a country walk, relaxing the hotel spa, a nice evening meal over a glass or two of wine.  A great chance to catchup with other Mum's without interruption.
